When hosting a cocktail hour I like to start with a signature cocktail. Most guests will at least try one and then switch to wine. Its nice to have both red and white wine, as well as sparkling water available. Be sure to include a few nibblers so guests aren't drinking on an empty stomach. Some olives, nuts, cheese and crackers are easy and look nice and pulled together in pretty dishes! As for decorations I added gold tinsel left over from Christmas! Anything sparkly and shimmery is perfect for NYE! It's very important to use different heights when making a cute table top for your cocktails and snacks. I have my champagne and cheese on cake stands while my cocktails are on a flat tray! Having different heights creates more space for food and is always aesthetically pleasing to the eye :)
I have an easy cocktail recipe that is good for almost any occasion but is especially festive for New Years Eve! It has a secret ingredient that is healthy and will help your guests stay hydrated and help prevent hangovers... Vitamin water zero! Another way to prevent hangovers is to use low sugar juices and mixers. In this recipe I used light cranberry juice. Remember to always drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive!!
Kim’s Festive Martini:
1 ounce Ruby Red grapefruit flavored vodka
1 ounce lite cranberry juice
1 ounce zero vitamin water pomegranate flavor
1 tsp lime juice
Prosecco or other sparkling wine
Mix first four ingredients together with ice in a martini shaker, pour in martini glasses, then add a splash of Prosecco! Garnish with fruit as desired. Delicious, refreshing, not too sweet and super festive!
Hope you all have a very happy New Years! Let's make 2016 great :)
